Celebrating Tradition and Innovation
Background
The Hong Kong University School of Chinese Medicine (HKUSCM) is an institution affiliated with the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, University of Hong Kong. Established in 1998, the school is dedicated to providing education grounded in the rich traditions of Chinese medicine, while also integrating the latest advancements in modern biomedical theories. As HKUSCM celebrated its 25th anniversary, the university sought to commemorate this milestone with a special publication that would encapsulate the school's unique heritage and forward-thinking approach.
Design Solution
The HKUSCM 25th Anniversary Commemorative Book was conceived as a thoughtful and visually striking publication that would reflect the school's core values and achievements. Teatime Design worked closely with the university to develop a layout and visual identity that would captivate the audience and do justice to HKUSCM's legacy.
The book's cover features a clean and contemporary design, with the school's iconic logo prominently displayed against a minimalist background. The use of a neutral colour palette and elegant typography creates a sense of timelessness, hinting at the rich history and traditions that HKUSCM upholds.
The interior layout is carefully considered, with a balanced integration of text and imagery. Striking full-page photographs showcase the school's state-of-the-art facilities, diverse student body, and collaborative research initiatives, while informative infographics and timelines provide a comprehensive overview of HKUSCM's growth and accomplishments over the past 25 years.
One of the design highlights is the seamless juxtaposition of traditional Chinese elements and modern design sensibilities. For example, the use of traditional Chinese calligraphy and illustrations is complemented by the clean, minimalist aesthetic, creating a harmonious blend of the old and the new. This approach reflects HKUSCM's commitment to preserving the time-honoured traditions of Chinese medicine while embracing the latest advancements in the field.

Skilfully balanced the ratio of text and visuals, using clear sections and appropriate whitespace to allow readers to flow through the content seamlessly.
